Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4, 2016

Admission to the Holiday Open House is by donation. Donations help the Sheldon Museum continue this community tradition every year.

On Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, the community is invited to the Sheldon Museum’s annual Holiday Open House. The Judd-Harris House is decked with beautiful floral arrangements enhanced with natural botanical designs by members of the Middlebury Garden Club in keeping with the period of the historic house. Carols played on the Museum’s 1831 piano, a craft activity, Christmas cookies, a miniature Christmas Tree Raffle and of course the trains will all add to the festive event.

The Spirit of Christmas Past: Four Centuries of Christmas in New England

Sheldon Museum and Historic New England members free; non-members $10

This well-illustrated lecture traces the development of the celebration of Christmas from the time it was outlawed in 17th Century New England through the beginning of the 21st Century when all the trappings of a traditional Christmas were in place.
